o many sad and angry voices are being heard. It's understandable. No food, no homes, no water, no medical attention, no money, no future and seemingly no hope for so many tens of  thousands of people.
This has been and will continue to be a horrendous disaster of epic proportions. And it is only the start of the long hurricane season.
The country is being generous in its outpouring of donations. It always is.

We have a president who doesn't have a clue about leadership. Bush flew over the stricken area yesterday in Air force One. Tomorrow, after the White House experts survey the area and find good, safe, vantage points for him, Mr. Bush will arrive. The New York Times in its lead editorial this morning put it succinctly and well; "George Bush gave one of the worst speeches of his life yesterday."
It is almost a ritual in this administration; the president appeared a day later than he should have. He appeared almost flip in his casualness. A complete lack of inspiration, except for his contention that America "will be a stronger place" for having endured this disaster. I truly don't believe he understands the severity and ramifications of this situation.
Reagan, Carter, Ford, Johnson, Clinton and Bush Sr., would have been inspirational leaders at a time like this. They would have been on the ground in Louisiana and Mississippi immediately, sweating along with the suffering, injured, shocked, hungry, tired and thirsty people. They would have stood shoulder to shoulder with the grieving. The President's spokesmen have informed us that he is cutting his five week vacation in Crawford, Texas, by two days.
Even before Katrina's fury struck, Bush's standing with the public had sunk to an all-time low (according to the latest Washington Post poll). What, if anything, has he handled with alacrity?
The country is less safe.
Gas prices are soaring (and with the continuing disaster, sure to go considerably higher).
His handling of the economy, Social Security, immigration - all lacking positive results.
And the war in Iraq. In every way the tab is rising on this war. His latest request is for another $51 billion. That puts the current total at more than $210 billion. It is climbing by minimally $5 billion per month.
And what is this administration doing? Financing his war by borrowing more and more... from the likes of China, Japan and Europe. One day our children and grandchildren will have to pay with their tax money. And the death toll now approaches 1900 and who knows the tally of those physically and psychologically wounded. While we are, understandably, glued to the media for information coming from the hurricane disaster, more of our servicemen are being killed and wounded.
I wonder if "W" knows that there is growing, nationwide, frustration  at the country's leadership.
Are you satisfied with the way the Republican controlled Congress is performing its job?
My message to the Democrats is simple enough, you've been too timid with this administration.
There'll  be more later, after the president has had his workout, slept well and visited the devastated areas ...with Presidents Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton.

Michael

P.S.Mr. Bush has just appealed to the American public not to buy more gasoline than they need!
Where would I put more gasoline than I need?
