'm grateful and appreciative of the constant flow of enquiries that are sent to my website asking about the health of my wife, Alana.
It has been fully two years since she was stricken with a stroke in the middle of the night. At first she was completely paralyzed on her left side, effecting her speech and even her facial appearance. It has been a long, hard and painful battle, and I feel because of her tenacity and strong resolve to overcome the handicaps she will, one day, overcome all the problems.

She looks and sounds like her old self. Her thinking is 100%. Thank God. She's back to running the household and overseeing our sundry business involvements. On the left side the arm is still without significant movement. Her leg gains strength and ability with each  therapy session at UCLA rehab clinic. She can stand now and with caregiver assistance she is able to take a few steps.
When she was taken to Cedars we were told she would walk out of the hospital. They had no right to say that. Time and again we were informed that if she was not significantly improved within 6 months, forget it, her chances for recovery were, at most, slight. Wrong. We are individuals and we all respond to a different and individual timetable. She is progressing.
It has been the most challenging period, which has only strengthened our love. We'll have been married 40 years this October.
My work schedule at KNX has been light and it has provided me ample time to help take care of her. She is ready for me to be heard, more, on the air! I always knew she should be in management.
Last month, for the station, I took her on a cruise in Europe; France, Portugal and Spain. The ship, the Seven Seas Voyager, was superbly equipped for a wheel-chair bound person. Europe isn't. The United States is amazingly prepared to help those who need assistance. In Europe we didn't find a single handicapped equipped bathroom or even a ramp to leave the side-walk and cross a street.
Here's the point, as tough as it may be traveling with a partially paralyzed person, it is really worth the adventure. We had so much fun and it rekindled her enthusiasm for making progress.
The worst of it all was flying. Try getting a wheelchair into the toilet on any aircraft. Impossible, but then why worry, the flight was only 13 hours!
