ritten
within an hour of the blasts and bombings in London's "tube" (subway)
system and aboard a double-decker bus. Written in haste and anger. Damn
the bastards. We don't know who perpetrated the crimes against
thoroughly innocent people.
The death toll is mounting and so are the ranks of the injured. At
this moment it appears that half-a-hundred have been slaughtered
and something like 700 have been wounded. A group has already proclaimed
their association with Bin Laden and their responsibility for their
actions.
Were
they suicide bombers seeking revenge, for what? Most of
the previous attacks by Muslim extremists in England have
been conducted by British citizens. (Which means, of course,
they can travel to this country without a visa). Or did
they just place the bombs and leave the scene to be able
to enjoy the fruits of their atrocities and to prepare
for more. In a City that large and that crowded it would
be nigh impossible to stop the determined terrorist. But,
I wonder how many have been apprehended by the most alert
British authorities. They have had experience, gained through
the years of Irish Republican Army attacks but a few years
ago. Already this has been portrayed as the worst terrorist
attack since World War 2. As they did then, so they appear
to be doing now - responding quietly and without panic.
Just
one day after the joy and pride that nation
felt, being awarded the 2012 Olympic Games,
comes this atrocious bombardment.
The
G8 summit, hosted by Tony Blair, was to have got underway
today with the theme, in large measure, poverty in Africa.
The meeting continues. Civilization wins out in the end.
Our
thoughts and condolences go out to the grieving and suffering.
If
there is a heaven...then there may well be a hell. The perpetrators
of these crimes will not get to heaven.
