he other day, watching an interview given by the President and conducted by ABC's Charlie Gibson, I was yet again appalled by the answer Mr.Bush gave to a simple and straightforward question. It was repugnant to hear the man who has run the country so badly respond to Charlie asking what he will most miss when he leaves office.
He said that the thing he will really miss, when he leaves office, is no longer going to see the families of slain soldiers, because they make him feel better about the war. The ignorance of this man: Seeing the families of slain soldiers makes him feel better about the war. What in Hades is he thinking.
In the same action-packed conversation the chief executive piously declared that he hoped Americans believe that he is the fellow who didn't "sell his soul for politics"! (Tell that line to many, from Sen. John Kerry, to Sen. John McCain to Vice President Al Gore)
The New York Times reported that he was offered the opportunity for a "do over" meaning, I suppose, that he could take another shot at answering the question. He then said "The biggest regret of the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq." And he added, "a lot of people put their reputations on the line and said the weapons of mass destruction" were cause for the war. What nonsense, what misinformation; Long before September 11, 2001 Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush had been anxious to attack Iraq.
In the same interview our out-going president proclaimed that he will leave office "with my head held high."
Just a guess, I'll wager that Gen.Colin Powell wishes he had never heard of this administration - Me too.
